for a five hour event, my mom successfully convinced me to don three outfits. thus my wedding wardrobe included a muslimah dress for the
nikah (solemnization), and traditional malay/bangladeshi outfits for the reception.
the nikah
saree material was chosen for the muslimah outfit. lined by nude taffeta silk, the tulle
saree bordered by gorgeous beadwork was tailored into a long jacket which was worn over a flouncy tulle skirt.
saree and tailoring were purchased from
stylemart, taffeta silk at
mahaco impex (arab street). we matched this with a freesia bridal bouquet made by mom :)

the reception
for my malay outfit mom found this beautiful
songket material from bandung indonesia. hand woven in deep red silk and patterned with gold thread, the material had to be rolled in a tube box! most
songket outfits are matched with a lace/beaded top but we went for the opposite and opted for a plain red taffeta silk top instead to allow the
songket to stand out. traditional accessories were rented from
anggun bridal house to complete the look.

marrying a bangladeshi boy, how can i not wear a
saree! anyhow, i got mine at stylemart together with the
nikah dress. indian brides usually wear red but since the
songket was red already, it made more sense to look for another color which i could also then wear for future events. they unfolded many, many pretty
sarees for us to choose from but luckily one stood out. a unique purple and shimmery grey combination sealed the deal. we separately tailored the
choli buying purple silk which stylemart could then send to india to get matching beadwork done to complement the rest of the
saree.

the groom
the mr secured his wedding outfit just four days before the wedding! browsing through every shop along selegie road up to serangoon road, we couldn't find a
sherwani he was satisfied with. eventually, he got his in Dhaka where there are obviously more choices (but he ended up paying double for some reason!). funny that all of us were looking for a plain brocade
sherwani all this while and he landed a super intricate pearl beaded outfit. surprisingly, despite the work on the material, it was beautifully subtle :)
his traditional malay outfit was rented from anggun bridal house which by some sort of divine intervention perfectly complemented my
songket outfit and fit him like a glove too :) thank God!
