my attempts returning to blogosphere has failed miserably. my lazy bone probably got heavier but anyways, apart from settling down, i've been busy penning/doodling random thoughts and ideas of projects i need to embark on soon or someday. thus - the concept of microblogging i.e. twitter, instagram and my latest fad - pinterest would currently be the favored form of sharing my life.

Roomscapes {Indoor Patio/Loggia}
via House Beautiful Jun'12 |
the french day bed definitely makes itself a unique addition to the room in a bring-indoors-outdoors sort of way, + great natural light this seems like a perfect place to chill. apart from that, what caught my eye was how the blue/white palette is brought out through a mix of oriental vases and country linens against bone/white wood finish french furniture. crush: that silver capped blue earn on the tabletop!
Beth Webb the designer of the above abode adopted a light/nude palette with blue accents for the entire residence inspired by Santorini. She also can't live with....Flourescent Lights. Bingo.

Being Mrs Mo {Cocoa Bar}
whether you knew me at 7 or 17, you would know i LOVE chocolates. skip the sweets and candy honey, i simply ❤ chocolates. so i guess it isn't much of a surprise if you were to put my love for chocolates and the wedding chateau together that you would get a chocolate bar. but no, i did not plant a chocolate fondue fountain as a centerpiece. for some reason, like my opinion towards ice sculptures - fondue stands are a little OTT for me.
the vision in mind for our chocolate bar had to be more than fancy chocolate fountains, i wanted it raw and real, a chocolate spread that would have enticed me 20 years ago. so me and my husband listed all the chocolates we grew up stuffing our faces with. it wasn't going to be about the varlhonas or godivas - just chocolate we remembered saving up $1 or £1 for or those our parents bribed us with to get our butts moving.
placed on wooden chopping boards, all our chocolates were unwrapped and displayed in big chunks and bars. blackboard signage was used to label our favorite treats. and the best part of it all, the bridal couple ate a grand total of 2 chocolates from this bar throughout the entire event! but more importantly, our guests loved it :)
enjoy the photoflood and that brings us to the end of my wedding feature :) have a great weekend ahead!

Being Mrs Mo {Wardrobe}
for a five hour event, my mom successfully convinced me to don three outfits. thus my wedding wardrobe included a muslimah dress for the nikah (solemnization), and traditional malay/bangladeshi outfits for the reception.
the nikah
saree material was chosen for the muslimah outfit. lined by nude taffeta silk, the tulle saree bordered by gorgeous beadwork was tailored into a long jacket which was worn over a flouncy tulle skirt. saree and tailoring were purchased from stylemart, taffeta silk at mahaco impex (arab street). we matched this with a freesia bridal bouquet made by mom :)

Being Mrs Mo {Venue}
my wedding palette was predominantly dictated by the venue. lucky for me, what i had in mind were neutral enough to match the event location. as much as it would be nice to create a whole mood board from scratch, singapore doesn't really offer spectacular venues and neither am i in any position to blow $100,000 on a 5 hour event.
so the safest (styling-wise) and fastest way to get things moving was to work with the location. my choice (mandarin oriental) was purely driven by my obsession with their tiramisu i kid you not. if you are wondering why i went for a hotel having been strongly against standard hotel wedding packages (still am btw), it was purely in the name of convenience and comfort for the aging parents as well as husband's family and friends who flew in from London and Dhaka. anyhow i've attended a couple of corporate events there and went on tiramisu-rampage! again, luckily for me, they had or shall i say did not have weird, ID-4 like chandeliers, dismal wall panelling and/or distracting carpets in their ballroom! that plus awesome tiramisu was a straight yes for me.
the neutral colored and chinoiserie-esque ballroom was more than ideal for what i planned out in my head. silver silk table tops, antique gold napoleon chairs with red velvet cushions, white china with silver trims all came together with glass jar themed floral centrepieces. we worked with an all white bloom selection which included tulips, cymbidiums, peonies, freesias, hyacinths, hydrangeas, snapdragons, sweet williams and more of which i cannot spell. the dais was in typical TWC style - a black rattan settee flanked by two gold bamboo tables against a chinoiserie screen. chinese vases filled with phalaenopsis adorned the stage to match.
well after 2 months, it feels great just looking at these pictures and re-living the fabulous day at MO!

Being Mrs Mo {Stationery}
maybe it was a good thing i didn't have much time to plan for my wedding. given four months and only knowing what i didn't want at my wedding, i became ms efficient when it came to decision making! from outfits to reception decor and everything in between. time constraints fortunately did not steal away the thrills of wedding planning in fact it conveniently shortened the pains of indecision and contemplation. but i do warn, the cost of short-term wedding prep is COST itself. the downside is that when you want to alter/add/subtract the choice(s) made, you must PAY :(
anyhow being a stationery junkie my initial excitement centered around wedding stationery duh! as much as i would have loved to design a whole suite, i decided quality over quantity and thought i'd just invest a lot on two things i.e. envelope and printing.
going for the gilt-touch and emphasis on texture i designed plain off white envelopes with a clean gold border on the flaps and lined it with pebble-embossed decorative paper. the invite itself was letter-pressed and with that allowing beautiful typography to take centre stage :)
my printer noticed a trend among stationery designers pointing out that "we had the plainest wedding invites!" - but rightly so. because we browse through a myriad of patterns and prints for clients all the time and the fact that not everyone can appreciate the simple beauty of letters we end up 'selling' this concept to ourselves!

Being Mrs Mo {Portraits}
i'm not at all photogenic and my husband hates taking pictures so the idea of doing a post wedding photo shoot with our outfits was never an option unless someone offered us a million bucks! but still, i wanted some sort of photo collection to commemorate our wedding :)
the trend these days see couples posing with quirky props and 50s costumes snapped and photoshop-ed in vintage-finish. very cute but it's just not us. having styled weddings for the last six years, i strongly believe weddings are a personal and intimate occasion (can't stress this enough!) thus every aspect of it should reflect the couple's character. i know it sounds typical-cliche wedding planner statement to make but people still don't listen and make a conscious effort to make it truly theirs. for me, its a simple way to ensure you don't follow trends blindly and also in 20 years time saving you from saying "God, that was so 2012!".
eventually the choice of having black and white portraits was made because b/w candid pictures always hold a timeless element to it. just clean, plain black and white. more like us i suppose :)
thank you darryl (tinydot photography)!

Positive Psychology
admit it! we all love taking quizzes and online tests on two occasions - while in lectures or when we actually NEED to study for an exam. currently i'm in neither of these situations but the urge to do countless questionnaires occurs when you need to do anything but questionnaires (my laundry is looking at me...well hello there).
anyhow participating in these Authentic Happiness tests will allow you to contribute to Dr. Seligman's ongoing research on positive psychology at UPenn (a branch of psychology focusing on the empirical study of positive emotion and strengths-based character etc) - my point of mentioning this of course is just to make yourself feel better about procrastinating :)
HAPPY weekend
and we welcome the great month in five days!

Wedding Week
it's friday! sadly i don't feel as excited as i used to about friday but nevertheless its the happier side of the weekly calendar :)
the wedding photos have arrived!!! remember how people then used to take home huge, heavy and overly-frilled wedding albums from their photographers in the 90s? fast forward to today and we receive our pictures in these compact cases! i bet in 10 years time people would be receiving chip-sized 'albums'.
anyhow i've diligently picked out shots from the lot summarizing my big day held almost two months ago and will be posting them on the blog for the whole of next week. once again, thank you to the parents, family and friends for all the love, support and prayers :)
